Is Exercise the Answer?

Several studies have shown that regular aerobic exercise has a positive impact on the frequency and severity of migraine attacks, however, some of my patients report that exercise triggers a migraine, which makes them very wary of starting any exercise for fear of it worsening their condition or poking that monster waiting to attack.

We have very limited research into why some patients have this experience, it could be due to sudden bursts of intense activity, or exercising in hot weather, and could be “exertional” headaches, rather than migraine headaches.

Mind you, many of my patients report an onset of migraine with no activity, with the mere movement between heat and cold environments.
